I’m Tim Lord — a business and digital consultant, developer, producer and musician based in Newquay, Cornwall. I help people work out what they need, solve problems and turn ideas into something they can use.
A fairly accurate brief
At school, a careers adviser asked me what I wanted to do. I wasn’t sure of the job, but I knew it should involve music, computers and probably something creative.
Looking back, that turned out to be a fairly accurate brief.
I learned guitar as a teenager, played in school bands and started writing songs. That led to years of performing, both on my own and with bands, around Newquay and Cornwall and further afield. Along the way I became a radio presenter and a DJ, and recorded with other artists.
Recording drew me further into the technology. Then came web design, video production, Photoshop and all the things I needed to learn to make them work. The interests kept feeding into each other, and gradually became the work I do today.
I’ve always enjoyed learning. The internet opened up a great deal of that for me: new tools to try, techniques to get my head around and more history than I could possibly get through. That interest in history is a big part of the writing you’ll find here too.
Work that makes a difference
What I enjoy most is being useful. Someone has a problem, or an idea they don’t yet know how to put into practice, and I can help them move it forward.
That might mean a website, a brand, a film, a booking system or a better way of running part of their business. I enjoy understanding what is needed, making it work and seeing the difference it makes to the person using it.
I work across strategy, design, development and production. Being able to connect those parts means I can stay involved from the first conversation through to the finished work.
How I work
Get interested
Listen, ask questions and understand what someone is trying to achieve. The first job is to get a clear picture of what would actually help.
Figure it out
Look at the options, work through the practical details and decide what makes sense. Explain the choices clearly so we know what we’re doing and why.
Make something
Design it, build it, record it or produce it. Try it in practice, work through what needs improving and get it ready to use.
Share it
Put the work into use and make sure the person it’s for knows what to do with it. With my own work, that might mean releasing a song, publishing a piece of writing or sharing something I’ve learned.
And then there’s the music
I write and play music because I enjoy it, and because of what it makes me feel. Sometimes it’s joyful. Sometimes it’s sad. Sometimes writing a song is how I work through something happening in my life.
I still write, record and produce under my own name. Music has been part of my life since long before any of this became a business, and it has its own place here.

I grew up in Cornwall and spent some time travelling before deciding that this was where I wanted to be. I love it here.
I can work internationally from anywhere, but I choose to work from Newquay.
