Huer’s Hut stands near Towan Head, above the sea west of Newquay harbour. A huer watched for pilchard shoals and signalled to fishing boats. Historic England dates the surviving structure probably to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. Its tower-like projection is a chimney, a practical feature of a working lookout.
