The Old Albion is an inn in Crantock with its own tradition of an underground passage. The pub’s history describes a blocked opening beneath a fireplace as a smugglers’ hole.
That account preserves a story attached to a particular building. It does not by itself establish the passage’s route, age or original purpose. Similar traditions belong to other pubs in the district, including the Treguth Inn and the Smugglers’ Den at Trebellan. Keeping each claim with its own building prevents several separate stories from becoming an invented continuous tunnel network.
