A blocked passage described in a transcribed Victorian letter; its exact course and function remain unidentified.
A modern transcription of a letter dated 13 September 1888 describes an old, blocked passage from the Fistral side towards a point close to Newquay’s Red Lion Hotel. The writer argued for a smuggling association. The account establishes a specific historical report, not a surveyed route or proven use. A dedicated investigation separates it from mines, drains, Tea Caverns and the harbour railway.

In September 1888, somebody in Newquay was sufficiently irritated by an argument about smuggling caves to write a letter. Another correspondent had apparently said there were no such caves.
