Great Western Beach is the Newquay beach below the hotels and railway district on the town’s eastern seafront. It is central to the story of the Hotel Victoria’s unusual route down through the cliff.
A lift and lower passage allowed hotel guests to reach the bathing beach and return without walking back up the slope. The beach is a separate subject from both the Victoria and the Great Western Hotel: the buildings explain changing ways of selling a coastal holiday, while the shore provides the shared setting.
