Newquay station became a passenger terminus in 1876, when passenger services began over the Cornwall Minerals Railway. The earlier railway story was chiefly about moving minerals and supplies, including traffic between inland workings and the harbour.
The Great Western Hotel opened nearby in 1879, connecting the station’s arrival traffic with the town’s developing visitor economy. Newquay later also received trains over the Perranporth branch, completed in 1905. The station, harbour incline and two approaches into the town are separate parts of this history; a general Newquay map pin cannot stand in for all of them.
