The London & South Western Railway was the company associated with the railway network reaching Wadebridge and Padstow from the east. Its Cornwall history is separate from the Great Western routes through Truro and Newquay.
The extension from Wadebridge to Padstow opened in 1899. The company later became part of the Southern Railway in the 1923 grouping. Keeping the operators distinct helps explain why journeys across Cornwall could involve routes, interchanges and road connections that look indirect on a simple modern map.
