Ponts Mill is a small settlement at the lower end of Luxulyan Valley, near Par. Its name now arrives quietly in walks and railway histories, but this was an important junction between different kinds of work and transport.
Joseph Thomas Treffry’s canal connected the area with Par Harbour. Tramways and inclines brought the upland industrial landscape into that system, while water was harnessed for power. Later china-clay activity added another layer. A cargo did not magically move from mine to ship: places like Ponts Mill were where the connecting pieces had to meet.
That is why it deserves its own entry rather than a passing mention beneath the viaduct. Ponts Mill is a place; the canal, railway remains and individual works are features within and around it. The map marks the settlement area. Explore it alongside Luxulyan Valley, Fowey Consols and Par Harbour to see how a cluster of apparently separate ruins once helped make a connected business work.
