Truro station is the main-line railway location serving the city. It belongs to the network created when the Cornwall Railway reached Truro from Plymouth in 1859, with later connections extending travel across the county.
In the Perranporth railway story, Truro is important as a wider journey destination rather than as the branch’s physical junction: the line towards St Agnes and Perranporth connected with the main line at Chacewater. The station should also be distinguished from the nearby Carvedras and River Allen viaducts, whose structure coordinates cannot substitute for a station entrance.
