Bugle station belongs to the Par–Newquay railway in Cornwall’s china-clay district. Its place in the network connects the passenger route with the industrial landscape through which it developed.

The corridor developed from mineral railways, with passenger services introduced in 1876. It is distinct from the route through Perranporth and St Agnes that closed to passengers in 1963. Identifying the individual stations makes that distinction useful in practice: a story about the closure of one Newquay route should not be read as the disappearance of every railway connection to the town.
