Duchy Peru was one of the workings along the Great Perran Iron Lode inland from Perranporth. Its recorded products included iron and zinc alongside other ores and mineral materials, with intermittent activity in the nineteenth century.

The name may sound as though the story has unexpectedly moved to South America. It has not: this is a Cornish mine, and its location belongs beside Treamble and Great Retallack in the same wider mineral landscape.

Duchy Peru and the nearby Peru Mine are separately recorded sites. Keep both names and locations distinct. Their connection is a reason to offer onward links, not a reason to merge the records.

Read the Great Perran Iron Lode entry for the broader geology and transport problem: extracting a useful mineral was only part of the job when heavy material still had to reach a market.
