The Gravel Hill tramway carried the mineral railway story towards the coast north of Holywell Bay. It connected the Gravel Hill workings with the Treamble railway system, crossing the landscape around Trebellan.
Local-history maps and photographs place this mineral route near the lane to the Smugglers’ Den. It was not the passenger railway through Perranporth, nor the separate Perran Railway, Pier and Harbour proposal of 1865. Sources differ over the dating of the Gravel Hill extension, so the opening year should not be made more definite than the evidence allows. Its industrial purpose, however, is clear.

A pub with a tunnel story sits beside a landscape of old mineral routes. The interesting part is working out which connections belong together.
