Bodmin General was the town station reached by the branch from Bodmin Road in 1887. The railway was extended to Boscarne Junction in 1888, linking the main-line branch with the older Bodmin & Wadebridge system.

Bodmin General and Bodmin Road, now Bodmin Parkway, are separate stations. The distinction is essential to understanding the journey into the town and the meeting of Great Western and Camel-valley railway routes. The branch’s ordinary passenger service ended in 1967; the subsequent heritage-railway history gave the town station a new role.
