Bodmin Road station opened on the Cornwall Railway in 1859. The name Bodmin Parkway belongs to the same station, situated outside Bodmin itself.
A branch connection to Bodmin General opened in 1887, creating a rail link from the main line into the town. That branch reached Boscarne Junction in 1888, connecting with the older Bodmin & Wadebridge railway. The station is therefore a useful starting point for understanding two rail systems whose routes and histories met around Bodmin.
