Cubert is a village south-west of Newquay, inland from Holywell Bay. Its church spire is a useful landmark in a landscape where the coast is often hidden until the last part of the walk. The parish includes places such as Ellenglaze and Trevemper, linking the village with both Holywell’s valley and the Gannel.
The church preserves medieval fabric and the dedication to St Cubert. Nearby religious traditions connect it with Crantock, St Newlyn East and Perranzabuloe, including the old meeting place at High Lanes. Those connections explain why several saints can appear in what looks, at first, like a story about one village.
There is a working landscape here too: farms, mills, mine sites and routes towards the coast. Cubert Common is a separate open landscape nearer the sea; Holywell is a separate coastal settlement within the parish. Keeping those distinctions makes the map useful rather than merely decorative.
