Perranporth station opened with the first section of the Chacewater branch in 1903. For two years it was the end of the passenger line, before the route continued to Newquay in 1905.

The original station was separate from Perranporth Beach Halt, added in 1931. Cornwall’s Historic Environment Record describes the original station site as completely redeveloped. That makes its documented location useful when comparing old photographs and maps with the town.
