Shepherds was a rural station on the Chacewater–Newquay branch, close to the junction for the Treamble mineral line. Its importance came partly from that railway connection rather than a large surrounding town.

The passenger station and the actual junction were separate railway locations. Mineral traffic towards Treamble and Gravel Hill belongs to a longer industrial story; it should not be confused with ordinary passenger service to Perranporth. The research register records later farm use at the former station site. A historic station pin is therefore not an invitation to enter the land.
