St Agnes station was a principal stop on the Chacewater–Perranporth–Newquay branch. The railway reached the district in 1903, linking it with the main line at Chacewater.

The station stood inland from the coastal village. The research register records a surviving station building within a wider site redeveloped for industrial use. Its setting helps explain why a railway serving a community did not necessarily deliver passengers to its centre or beach. The branch’s final passenger service ran in February 1963.
