One platform. Different customers, countries and needs.

A substantial international brief

Hannspree needed to update an e-commerce website serving both the general public and distributors. It covered multiple product ranges and needed to work in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian.

The challenge was not simply translating the pages. Different audiences needed different information and routes through the site, with country-specific pricing and the performance expected on mobile as well as desktop.

02 / The work

Thinking it through before building

I worked with the project manager to establish how the platform should be organised, then designed, developed and coded the website. That included advanced filtering, audience-specific information and a help and support system for both trade and consumer users.

I brought in limited specialist support for third-party filtering and product entry, and delegated some product and image preparation. I retained responsibility for the design and the main development work.

Planning the architecture, content management and caching approach before the build was a substantial part of making the different requirements work together.

03 / What changed

A more joined-up international operation

The delivered platform streamlined how distributors could access product information and place orders, while supporting the public-facing experience too.

It is a strong example of the way I approach a complicated project: ask the questions early, understand who needs what and build around those requirements.
